Man arrested by gun-wielding cops in Dundee street bailed after appearing in court

A man arrested after gun wielding police stopped a car in a busy residential street appeared in court today facing charges of possessing knives and having a bald tyre on his car.

William Hendry was held following an incident in Perth Road, Dundee, on Sunday in which armed cops – seen on camera pointing large guns at the vehicle he was allegedly driving – pull over a motor before making arrests.

Hendry, 41, of Witchwood Court, Coatbridge, face three charges during a brief private hearing on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court.

The first charge alleges he was in possession of a knife, while the second alleges he was in possession of two further knives.

A third charge alleges that the car he was said to be driving had less than a millimetre of tread on it when he was pulled over.

Hendry made no plea during the short hearing.

Solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin, for Hendry, asked he be released on bail.

Sheriff Tom Hughes continued the case for further examination and released Hendry on bail pending further court dates being set.

Two other men arrested during the armed police operation on Sunday were released without appearing in court.
