Richard Rennie, 45, of Threewells Drive, Forfar, had sentence deferred to be of good behaviour.
Rennie admitted assaulting his former partner Nicola Rennie by pushing her on the body at Gullane Road, Dundee, on November 13.
The court heard the couple had been exchanging messages that day and he went to pick up their child. The assault happened when he turned up to collect the child and an argument ensued.
Sentence was deferred until February 21.
