Man admits doing 75mph in 40 zone in Dundee

A drivers was clocked doing speeds of 75mph in a 40mph area in Dundee.

Daniel Boyle, 34, had sentence deferred at the city’s sheriff court after admitting driving at excessive speed.

The court heard Boyle, of Campbell Street, Glasgow, first came to the attention of police at 1.26am on March 24.

Fiscal Depute John Malpass said: “Police officers using handheld speedguns at Kingsway saw the accused’s vehicle pass and recorded a speed of 69mph, in a 40mph zone. Officers then followed the accused’s vehicle for a short distance and recorded an average speed of 74.96mph.

“The speed limit was 40mph throughout and the road was unlit. There were other vehicles on the road, although traffic was light.”

Boyle appeared in court representing himself.

When questioned by Sheriff Carmichael if he had any objection to the fiscal’s narration of the facts, Boyle replied: “No, that’s accurate.”

He added that he was employed as an engineer and needed his licence for work.

Boyle admitted that on March 24, at A90 Kingsway, A90 Dundee to Perth dual carriageway, and at the Inchmichael Interchange, Errol, he drove a car dangerously by driving at excessive speeds.

Sheriff Carmichael said: “Due to the seriousness of the charge, and the speeds involved, I am considering disqualifying you from driving for a period of time.”

Sentence was deferred until July 30 to allow Boyle to instruct a solicitor.
