Dundee man attacked woman with guitar after kiss at party

A Dundee man threw a guitar at a woman after she asked him to leave a party, having seen him kiss another girl.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Christopher Donnelly, 24, carried out the assault on Fiona Nicholson at her home on Kinghorne Road.

It heard Ms Nicholson became upset when she saw Donnelly kissing someone else and asked him to collect his belongings and leave.

She then threw his guitar at him but Donnelly caught it and threw it back at her, knocking her to the ground.

She was left permanently disfigured, receiving a cut to her lip, which needed three stitches, and a nose injury.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell said arrangements had been made for Donnelly to spend the weekend with Ms Nicholson.

She said he arrived around 2.30pm on August 30 last year and went to the bedroom to sleep before joining Ms Nicholson and a friend for drinks in the living room around 6pm.

Numerous other people arrived shortly after and the group continued to drink together for some time.

The fiscal said: “A female, unknown to the complainer, entered the locus and immediately started kissing the accused. This upset the complainer so she left the living room and went to her bedroom.

“She then returned to the living room and asked the accused and the unknown female to leave. The accused then began collecting his property.

“As he did so, the complainer removed his acoustic guitar from a cupboard in the hallway. She threw it to him and he caught it. He threw it back at her using both hands, striking her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.

“A friend assisted her back to her feet and saw she had a cut on her lip and her nose was bleeding.

“The accused then apologised to the complainer and left.”

The following day Ms Nicholson attended Ninewells Hospital as her nose and lip were still bleeding.

The incident was reported to police and Donnelly was detained.

Ms Nicholson said believed she was in a relationship with the accused at the time of the assault. However, when interviewed by police, Donnelly stated he was not and never had been in a relationship with Ms Nicholson.

Donnelly, of Charleston Road, admitted assaulting Ms Nicholson by striking her on the face with a guitar, to her injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sentence was deferred until June 12.
