Away fans at Dens Park have disrupted the Remembrance Sunday minute of silence ahead of the Dundee v Celtic game.

Former Celtic star turned TV pundit, Andy Walker, has slammed a section of the Celtic support in the stadium who interrupted the minute’s silence ahead of the live Sky Sports kick-off.

All Scottish Premiership clubs observed a minute of silence over the weekend ahead of Remembrance Sunday on November 14.

Both Dundee and Celtic players paused before kick-off to commemorate the day but were met with singing and audible booing from a group of spectators.

Walker said: “It was so embarrassing.”

Minute cut short by disruptions

One spectator at the game who witnessed the moment of silence claimed the minute had to be cut short due to the disruptions.

He said: “It was disgraceful to hear fans continuing to sing through the minute’s silence.

“There were definite chants still coming from the away end and I think the referee even cut the minute short because of them.

“It was a huge shame for that moment to be spoiled by unthinking idiots and it brought huge boos from the Dundee fans towards the Celtic supporters afterwards.

“Plenty Celtic fans respected it but the rest are ruining the reputation of their club by their actions.”

‘The ball’s in your court’

Later the game was delayed as Celtic supporters threw tennis balls onto the pitch in a protest against the potential appointment of Bernard Higgins in a security and safety role at Parkhead.

Higgins was formerly an assistant chief constable at Police Scotland and was at the forefront in the enforcement of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act which some believe needlessly criminalised football spectators.

The game was stopped for more than two minutes as players, stewards, ball boys and ball girls attempted to clear the pitch of the sea of tennis balls.

Protesters also brandished banners directed at Michael Nicholson, acting chief executive.

The signs read: “Fans or Higgins? The ball’s in your court, Nicholson.”

The game ended 4-2 in Celtic’s favour, with Jota and Kyogo Furuhashi netting twice each for the Glasgow side, and Danny Mullen and Lee Ashcroft scoring for Dundee.
