A US fast food giant has not ruled out setting up shop in Dundee as it announced its first ever Glasgow branch.

Tex-Mex specialists Taco Bell revealed today that it will establish itself in Scotland with an outlet on Sauchiehall Street, which may be open in time for Christmas.

And a spokeswoman for the California-based firm said it had not ruled out expanding “further north” than Glasgow as owners aim to get Scottish store numbers into “double digit figures”.

Rumours began circulating of Taco Bell’s arrival in Scotland in July.

It will be homes to such famous dishes as the crunchwrap supreme as well as Mexican classics such as quesadilla, tacos and burritos.

The Adil Group will operate the Glasgow store and have promised “exciting ideas for more stores” in Scotland.

Marketing manager of Taco Bell UK and Europe Ellen Gault said: “We’ve seen so much love for Taco Bell in the UK, but the fact that to date we have only opened restaurants in England has been a contentious topic.

“We’ve had a number of super loyal fans travelling down from Scotland to Manchester for their taco fix so it was only a matter of time before we made the move across the border.

“Glasgow seemed like the perfect place to start and we look forward to welcoming Glaswegians through our doors to experience delicious Mexican-inspired food.”
