The emergency services, were scrambled yesterday afternoon after a member of the public fell from cliffs at a Fife beauty spot.

The public were cleared from Shell Bay as police, paramedics and an air ambulance assisted after a walker fell at the popular Chain Walk coastal path in Elie.

The air ambulance was also dispatched to assist in the emergency.

An eyewitness close to the scene said: “The beach was busy at the time and the emergency services were requesting people to leave as that’s where the ambulance was due to land. She was on the sand so had to leave but her husband and daughter were in the sea and had to stay there.

“We were informed that someone had fallen on rocks at the Chain Walk but wasn’t too badly hurt.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland, said: “Police were called around 2pm on Saturday, July, 25 following the report of a man falling down an embankment at Chain Walk, Ellie in Leven.

“Officers assisted the ambulance service and a 56-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

The emergency operation is the latest in a series at the popular Fife beauty spot.

In May a female had to be airlifted to safety after falling 30 foot onto cliffs.

The amount of incidents has brought renewed calls from some local residents for the Chain Walk to be closed due to fears over its safety.
