A new jobs initiative in Dunfermline and south west Fife is helping people “graduate” to the world of work.
The Retail Academy project, co-funded by councillors in both parts of the region, has helped 12 previously unemployed people find work in the retail industry.
The training and work experience, delivered over four weeks, enables candidates to gain valuable hands-on experience within the retail environment.
After successfully completing the seven-day employability and skills training where participants receive employability support, job search and presentation skills training, candidates also complete World Host customer service training and Food Hygiene certificates.
Following formal training, the candidates are offered a work experience placement within the retail sector, with the scheme having been supported by a number of local retailers.
Lucinda McAllister, service manager for employability and employer engagement at Fife Council, said: “This is an exciting programme designed by working closely with local employers.
“It is a great example of working in partnership with a range of organisations and funders, where we are able to deliver this high quality programme for our local community.
“The unemployed people were recruited from the surrounding area and given an opportunity to gain employment within the retail sector.”
