Funeral to take place of Fife woman Rebecca Johnson

Victim — Fifer Rebecca Johnson.

A Fife woman stabbed to death in Lapland will be laid to rest next week.

The funeral of Rebecca Johnson, from Burntisland, will take place at Dunfermline Crematorium on Friday January 6, her family has announced.

Friends have been asked to wear something purple, Rebecca’s favourite colour, or animal print in her honour.

The 26-year-old had been working with a Santa Safari tour company providing Christmas-themed trips to Lapland, when she was found dead in the Finnish village of Kuttanen on December 3.

Her Czech boyfriend Radek Kovac, 36, has been remanded in custody on suspicion of killing her in the flat the couple shared.

He was arrested in the wilderness, suffering from hypothermia, following a manhunt involving a helicopter and dogs in sub-zero conditions.

It later transpired he had been living under a false name, both in Scotland and Finland, and his real name was Karel Frybl.

He also had previous convictions, including one for a vicious assault on an ex-partner.

Rebecca, known as Becky, is survived by her devastated parents Henry and Anne, both 59, who flew to Lapland in the wake of their daughter’s tragic death.

A keen animal lover, Becky kept dogs and was a director of Burntisland-based Active Woofers.

The former Balwearie High School pupil also ran stalls at dog racing events and was well-known and liked in dog racing circles.

Michelle Atkinson, of Carnegie Canines flyball club, said Rebecca had been a keen musher and had been living with Kovac in a caravan before they moved to Finland.

“I saw her in January and she was all excited about going to Finland for her new life,” she said.

After her death, runners in a dog race at Lochore Meadows Country Park wore purple ribbons in tribute to her.

And a trophy named after her was presented to the best in show at a canine Christmas party on December 11.

There was a minute’s applause before the prize was handed over at the Santa Paws party organised by Dana’s Angels Fife.

Rebecca’s funeral will take place at Dunfermline Crematorium on Friday January 6 at 11.30am.

Mourners will then be asked to share memories of her with her family at Pettycur Bay Hotel, Kinghorn.
