A school playground hit by vandals will soon look better than ever, thanks to a parent fightback.
Children were bewildered when they returned to Kinghorn Primary School after the Christmas holidays to find a scene of destruction.
Vandals caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage, ruining a bench and play equipment and leaving glass strewn on the ground.
Head teacher Carol Wyse said at the time it was upsetting for pupils to see.
However, mums and dads have got together to raise hundreds of pounds to make play time even better for the youngsters with new and improved equipment and toys.
A crowdfunding website has attracted pledges nearing £500 and money is rolling in from a series of events which will include an online auction and school disco.
Children were asked to create a wishlist for their playground and the first item, a willow tunnel, is to be erected next week.
They also asked for colourful playground markings, a mural, shelter, a picnic table and vegetable plots.
One of the organisers of the fundraising group, Mairi Holden, said: “We were all really upset about the vandalism but we have now come together. It started off as just a few mums but it has expanded and lots of mums and dads have got involved.
“It will make a huge difference to the children. There is play equipment at the top of the playing field but they can’t use that during the winter and in wet weather and there’s not much for them to play on elsewhere.
“This is also bringing the mums and dads together and it’s nice for the children to see and learn about what their parents are doing.”
The school’s parent council has also applied for funding and several local companies have donated auction items and offered financial support.
