Golfers to face-off in Arbroath for Relay for Life Ryder Cup

Before Darren Clarke takes his European players over to Minnesota in September, Arbroath will stage its own Relay for Life Ryder Cup.

Two teams of local golfers will battle out the famous competition’s format over Elliot golf links on Friday and Saturday, celebrating the Cancer Research UK fundraising event with a presentation dinner.

Over the last two years in which more than £45,000 has been raised, the teams have looked at various ways to increase the amount of money generated by team members and that has included running marathons to cross country cycle rides and a host of shows and events spread throughout the year.

The events and fundraising culminate in the Arbroath Ryder Cup teams taking part in the Relay for Life on September 17 at the town’s cricket club.

Relay for Life chair Ian Angus said it was a perfect example of a group of local lads who have raised a phenomenal amount of money for Relay for Life doing something they all enjoy.

He said: “But it has involved a power of work, particularly from the team captains and everyone involved in staging the event.

“I know they have set their sights even higher this year and that can only be good news for Cancer Research UK.”

Tickets for the evening entertainment event are available, cost £10 and the teams can be supported online through the Cancer Research UK website.
