A concert will be held to officially launch a charity set up in memory of an Angus man who took his own life.

Reach Across was launched following the death of Ross Ramsay to promote awareness and to break through the barriers of the stigma attached to suicide and mental wellbeing.

The concert at the Webster Theatre in Arbroath on April 15 is being held to launch Reach Across as a registered charity.

Ross was found dead at the age of 30 in 2013 after going missing from his home in Glasgow where he had embarked on a promising career in the music and theatre industry.

Mum Sandra who lives in Arbroath said: “I want to pay tribute to Ross and Reach Across is my way of coping with losing my son.

“At least something positive is coming out of such a tragedy.”

Sandra said Ross loved music and the show is to celebrate “good things in life”.

She added: “When Ross died by suicide in 2013 I knew I was going to do something to try and raise awareness of the stigma which still surrounds suicide and mental health vulnerability.

“Two years ago we held an emotional, yet totally brilliant evening of remembrance in the Webster Theatre.

“The audience were up dancing in the aisles and it truly was a night to be cherished and remembered forever.

“My son, Ryan, and friend, Donna, supported me in my wish to set up a charity in Ross’s name, which we called Reach Across.

“I love the charity having Ross’s name in it.

“We had no idea how to set up a charity but we rolled up our sleeves and got on with getting registered.

“To officially launch Reach Across we have planned a spectacular evening of music, dance, magic and hopefully more dancing in the aisles.

“All the artists offered their talents freely and again I was supported so lovingly by people who knew Ross.”

Reach Across is also currently applying for Gift Aid as Ryan does a challenge every year and Gift Aid boosts the donations.

Sandra added: “I am currently supporting people who are having suicidal thoughts and people who have been bereaved by suicide.

“My dearest wish was that after Ross died there would never be another — sadly more families and circles of friends continue to lose loved ones.

“I know how much I miss Ross every single day and the impact suicide has upon people of all ages.”
