Dozens of protesters gathered in Dundee’s City Square to oppose “SNP cuts” ahead of Nicola Sturgeon’s speech to the STUC.
Some carried placards opposing the reduction in council funding while others, stood on the steps of the Caird Hall, were dressed in bright yellow t-shirts opposing the privatisation of the Calmac ferry service. Ms Sturgeon did not pass the assembled collection of trade unionists, socialists and Labour candidates, though, as she entered the building from its underground car park.
Scottish Labour deputy leader and campaign manager Alex Rowley said: “Kezia Dugdale outlined her plans to use the new powers of the Scottish Parliament to stop the cuts to public services. By contrast Nicola Sturgeon refused to use the front door of the STUC to avoid protesters.”
