Dundee skipper Josh Meekings faces a race to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Ibrox as he attempts to shake off an injury picked up against Motherwell.

In the first half of last week’s 3-1 defeat to the Steelmen, the 26-year-old required treatment after a challenge with Curtis Main after going down clutching the top of his left thigh.

That led to him being replaced at the break with new signing Ryan Inniss coming on for the second half, making his debut in the process.

Ryan Inniss could make his first start for Dundee at the weekend.

And that’s left manager Neil McCann with a decision to ponder – whether to wait for his captain or go with one of his new boys against Rangers.

Inniss signed up at Dens just hours before taking to the pitch against the Steelmen, joining from English Premier League side Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

And he may be called on to make his first start, alongside Genseric Kusunga, this weekend. The Dens gaffer also bolstered his defensive options with another loan signing in the shape of Preston North End defender Andy Boyle until January.

He might even be tempted to go with both of his new boys after a Kusunga error gave ’Well the lead at Dens last weekend.

Meanwhile, the second string lost out to Motherwell again as their Reserve League Cup campaign opened yesterday.

After last week’s Irn-Bru Cup loss, they went down 3-1 in their opening group game.

Neil McLaughlin opened for the home side, Matty Henvey levelled, but Jamie Semple and Connor Sammon strikes followed to give ‘Well the win.
