Bad boy Scott Bain in return to action for Dundee U/20s

Goalie Scott Bain’s time in the doghouse continued as he turned out for Dundee’s Development team against Motherwell on Monday night.

An ever-present before the weekend, Bain was dropped from the squad for the trip to Hibs following a bust up in the wake of the Hamilton Accies defeat a week earlier.

He had been on the bench for last week’s second-string loss to Partick Thistle, though at the time boss Neil McCann put that down to the lack of two available young keepers and not disciplinary reasons.

This time Bain got the 90 minutes as the Dark Blues fought back via a Jesse Curran strike to earn a draw.

While the disciplinary process is ongoing, Dundee have not commented on his situation and it’s not clear if the 25-year-old is training with the first team.

Details of what his alleged indiscretion was remain sketchy, though it appears to relate to events in the dressing-room at half-time or after the final whistle in that Accies game.

It led to a two-week fine, but he’s appealed that and a players’ union representative is due to meet with Dens officials over the course of the next few days in a bid to resolve the matter.

Last night’s game saw on-loan midfielder Scott Allan in action after his recent groin injury.

The Celtic man has been missing since the 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock on September 23 but is now closing in on a first-team return.

He got over 70 minutes of the action at Dens Park and there is a chance he will be involved at first-team level when Kilmarnock visit on Saturday week.

Also back was defender Kosta Gadzhalov.

The Bulgarian’s season has been blighted by injury and he’s yet to make a top-team appearance.

With that in mind, he’ll need more Development team run-outs before he returns to the top squad.

Meanwhile, no further action is to be taken against Hibs striker Anthony Stokes for punching defender Jack Hendry below the belt during the weekend clash.

On the advice of his assistants, referee John Beaton only booked the striker when Dundee felt the colour of the card should have been red.

Their anger increased when Stokes set up the winner for Simon Murray.

Because the incident was dealt with at the time, that has to be an end to the matter.
