Robbie Neilson has tough choice over Dundee United striking partnership

Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson is facing a two-from-three choice with his in-form strikers for Saturday’s trip to Falkirk.

January signing Osman Sow showed he’s now ready to be considered for a starting place when he bagged a brace for the reserves in a 5-0 win over Hamilton Accies on Tuesday.

The Swede, who was a major player for Robbie during his time at Hearts, has been working on his match fitness since arriving from MK Dons on deadline day.

So far the 28-year-old has only been used from the bench, but as well as his two goals for the second string, he completed 90 minutes.

That confirms he’s ready to be considered for a starting spot this weekend. He does, though, face stiff competition from the two men already in the team, Nicky Clark and Pavol Safranko.

On-loan Safranko has scored twice in the last three games and earned praise for his work.

Clark has scored the winner in each of the last two games and the manager has admitted he likes the look of their partnership.

“Before Pavol was isolated at times and was dropping deep, doing a lot of running himself,” said Robbie.

“Now Nicky is fit again, he’s providng the link between the midfield and Pavol and it’s helped.

“Having Nicky fit has been like getting another new player.”

United now know who they’ll face in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup at Tannadice on Sunday week after Inverness Caley Thistle edge out their Highland rivals Ross County on penalties in last night’s fifth-round replay.

Tickets for that go on general sale on Monday and the ticket price has been set at £15. Gate price on the day will be £20.
