Csaba has mixed emotions after Dundee United get much-needed win

His team got three much-needed points but Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo had mixed emotions over Tuesday night’s victory against Dumbarton.

The Tangerines 2-0 success, courtesy of first half strikes from Paul McMullan and Bilel Mohsni, was their first at Tannadice since early January.

That, and the fact it moved them back up into fourth place and the promotion play-off places in the Championship, delighted the gaffer.

However, a string of missed chances plus some slack defending at times turned his smile to a grimace.

“So many chances. In the first half we score two but, generally, we have to score more goals,” said Csaba.

“What is the most difficult to explain is Dumbarton also had two or three chances and all were created from our own defence.

“I think one chance in the first half was a good chance created by them but we had three chances for them created by our own players. With a better decision it would not happen.”

Csaba did appreciate after another run of bad results that had seen no wins in the previous five outings, his players were feeling the heat.

“On the other hand I am just satisfied with the performance because the pressure was very high.

“This is a game you expect to win. You saw the players wanted the win but to handle the pressure was not easy for them.

“Now on Saturday I want to see a better passing game and better finishing.

“But we won three points and that is the most important thing.”

Csaba is also aware that pressure is something they will have to handle if they are going to turn their season round between now and May.

He believes whatever United’s troubles since the turn of the year, they remain the team every other outfit wants to beat.

“I am telling them all the time they have to handle the pressure.

“If you are on paper the better team then everyone wants to win against you.

“But if you are clever you can play them easily out of games. This cleverness is what I need.”

Midfielder Sam Stanton limped off during the second half after picking up a knock.

United, however, are confident he’ll be ready when the teams meet again on Saturday.
