Dundee consider move for United’s Blair Spittal

Dundee are considering an audacious move for out–of-contract Dundee United star Blair Spittal.

And if his former Tannadice team-mate Simon Murray had not agreed a switch to Hibs late last month, he too would have been on Dens Park boss Neil McCann’s list of possible targets as well.

The Evening Telegraph understands while no deal has been struck with Spittal, there has been contact between the Dark Blues and his representatives that could see him crossing over Tannadice Street this summer.

Staying at United does remain an option for the former Queen’s Park attacker.

However, he’s indicated to United his preferred option is to move on and, over the past week or so, Motherwell and Partick Thistle have been linked.

A number of clubs down south have also been gathering information on him.

In three years at Tannadice the 21-year-old has made just over 100 appearances for United scoring 14 goals, five of which came in six games towards the end of last season.

Meanwhile, had Neil McCann accepted the permanent role of manager at Dens sooner, he may also have made a move for 25-year-old Murray.

The man who got 18 goals for United last term was a Dundee fan as a kid but by the time McCann took on the Dens job on a long-term basis, just a week ago, Murray had pledged his future to the Hibees.

The Dark Blues have also been linked with moves for former goalkeeper Kyle Letheren and St Johnstone defender Tam Scobbie.
