Ray McKinnon set to alter Dundee United squad for Irn-Bru Cup

Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon is set to shuffle his pack for Saturday’s Irn-Bru Cup trip to Dunfermline.

The Tangerines line-up is expected to show several changes from the one that started the Championship victory over the Pars at Tannadice on Tuesday night.

Dutchman Nick van der Velden could come back into the starting line-up after being benched for the last two games.

Cammy Smith could also be given a run.

And while he overcame a calf problem to play the other night, keeper Cammy Bell could be rested and Luis Zwick given another run-out.

The young German, who came on for Bell at Queen of the South last weekend, has played both Irn-Bru Cup ties to date.

Lewis Toshney is also on course to start after seeing his first action for over a month when he turned out in the Development League meeting with Hamilton yesterday.

The defender has been back in the squad for the last two first-team games after recovering from damaged ankle ligaments at Hibs early last month.

Toshney didn’t play, though, and got his first run out when he was given 70 minutes for the second string.

So long as he’s come through that without suffering any adverse reaction, he’ll be involved at East End Park.

Young midfielder Ali Coote also played 90 minutes against Accies.

He is another who could get some game time on Saturday.

Last night’s game saw a young United side battle back twice to earn a point from a 2-2 draw.

Dom McMeekin and Matty Smith were on the score sheet.

Fans are reminded Saturday’s Irn-Bru action kicks off at 12.30 pm.
