Dundee United 6 Cowdenbeath 1: Impressive Terrors batter Blue Brazil

Dundee United cruised to victory over Cowdenbeath in the League Cup thanks mainly to a four goal first-half burst at Tannadice last night.

The Tangerines dominated from the start and Simon Murray had them ahead with just four minutes on the clock when he forced home a Tope Obadeyi cross.

Five minutes later Lewis Toshney got his first goal in tangerine, smashing home from eight yards when the visitors failed to clear a Scott Fraser corner.

Fraser was the provider again in the 21st minute when he picked out Cammy Smith with a fine pass and the on-loan attacker slotted home confidently.

Cowdenbeath did pull one back via a superb long range effort from Chris Turner in the 25th minute, but United were soon three ahead again after Murray got his second of the night just after the half hour mark.

The second half saw Dutch striker Nick van der Velden make his debut from the bench just hours after signing on a one-year deal.

It was Murray, however, who continued to grab the limelight and he recorded his first United hat-trick when he netted his side’s fifth with 18 minutes left.

And in the 87th minute sub Henri Anier rounded off the scoring with goal number six.
