Blue Peter’s latest dog is a beagle-basset hound cross called Henry.

The two-year-old rescue dog was adopted by the children’s programme from Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity.

He follows a long line of resident dogs on the show, who have also included Petra, Shep, Bonnie, Mabel and Meg.

Viewers will be introduced to Henry in Thursday’s episode as he makes his debut in the studio.

They will follow Henry’s story so far as he leaves the rehoming centre with his new family and adapts to his new life, before he makes his first visit to the Blue Peter offices and studio.

He will then be given a check-up by CBBC’s Pets Factor vet Rory Cowlam.

Henry, who loves long walks and is very inquisitive, is the 10th dog to appear on Blue Peter and is the first to be taken in by the show since 2009, when crossbreed puppy Barney was given to former presenter Helen Skelton.

There have also been five tortoises, nine cats and two parrots on the show.

Presenter Lindsey Russell, who hosts the programme alongside Radzi Chinyanganya, said she has wanted a new Blue Peter pet for some time.

She said: “Henry is such a friendly dog and I can’t wait to have him in the studio every week. He’s already met the crew, had a good sniff around and seems to love it.

“Pets have always been such an important part of Blue Peter and it’s so exciting to be welcoming the latest one to the show.”
