One of the Golden Tickets from the film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is expected to fetch thousands of pounds when it goes up for sale at auction.
The prop will go under the hammer next month alongside a Wonka Bar from the 1971 classic starring Gene Wilder as the title character.
Formerly the property of Julie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt in the film, the lot is anticipated to sell for between £8,000 and £12,000 at Catherine Southon Auctioneers at Farleigh Court Golf Club, Selsdon, Surrey, on July 17.
The ticket, printed on gold-coloured foil, measures 3.7in by 7.5in (9.5cm by 19cm) and reads: “Wonka’s Golden Ticket, Greetings to you, the lucky finder of this golden ticket, from Mr Willy Wonka.”
The faux chocolate bar is made of board, coloured paper and a foil wrapper, and measures 3.5in by 6.3in (9cm by 16cm).
They were given to the current owner’s late partner, Mark Poncia, by Cole when they were dating, the auction house said.
Photographs of the actress and Mr Poncia – a former auctioneer – will be included with the ticket.
Catherine Southon said: “As a child, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory was one of my favourite books and I loved the character of Veruca Salt in the film, so when the ticket and Wonka Bar was brought in to us on a valuation day, I couldn’t believe my eyes – a real dream come true.
“It’s an iconic piece of film ephemera whose appeal resonates with the child in all of us.”
At the same auction, theatre fans will be in with a chance of buying a Mappin & Webb Ltd silver plated Georgian-style tea set which was used in the 1958 production of My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal starring Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison and Stanley Holloway.
