A Dundee couple have taken the lead by Thai-ing up a dog adoption all the way from south-east Asia.
Angie Fox chased the hound, Indi, from Thailand, after seeing it on a website of stray dogs.
And it was love at first sight for Angie, who has spent more than a month waiting for her chosen pet to be brought some 8,000 miles across the world.
“We have been travelling to Thailand for 10 years, including Phuket, and we are well aware of the stray dog problem in the area,” she said.
“I found out about the Soi which means ‘street’ in Thai Dog Foundation. They put a variety of stray dogs that they have saved on their page almost every day.
“They put Indi up on January 18 and I just fell in love. I said to my husband, ‘She is so sweet’.
Angie, who lives near Clatto Woods in Dundee, said that once she saw Indi and heard the dog’s story, she knew the pup was the one.
She even has her own Facebook page, telling the full story of how she was found and brought to Scotland.
Vets believe that the erosion of Indi’s bottom teeth could be the result of her having gnawed on bars while being caged, possibly as part of south-east Asia’s dog meat trade.
“I looked at Indi’s photo every day and cried every night thinking about her and what had happened. We just had to adopt her.Post by Little Indi & Her Big Adventure.“They found her at the end of last year on Sarasin Bridge, which is an area where a lot of dogs get dumped.
“She had been hit by a car and her back legs were paralysed but after a while she was up and wobbling around.
“She still has nerve damage but now she is racing around the garden like a crazy dog!”
Angie added that, even though it took some time and more than £800 to get Indi from Soi to Strathmartine, it has been worth the wait.Post by Little Indi & Her Big Adventure.Indi is adjusting well to life in the City of Discovery, Angie said, although she is finding the weather a bit of a challenge.
“The process to bring her over takes about a month she was given all her jabs and had her time in quarantine,” said Angie.
“Then we shipped her by plane from Phuket to Amsterdam and then on to Edinburgh.
“She has taken to Dundee amazingly. She is feeling the cold, of course, given she has come from 45 degree heat, but we have plenty of dog coats that fit her nicely.”
Angie is hoping to take Indi up Ben Nevis next year to raise money for the Soi Foundation.
