Organisers and participants of the 2015 Dundee Swimarathon celebrated the event’s success at a civic reception at the City Chambers.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan praised the achievements of the 300 participants at the challenge, which was organised by Dundee Rotary Club and raised more than £23,000 for local charities, sports clubs and the End Polio Now campaign.
Last month teams of swimmers completed 3,060 lengths of the Olympia pool equivalent to 47.5 miles or the distance from Dundee to Dunfermline.
The youngest swimmer was five-year-old Ruby Brown, with Ron Mudie the oldest at 83.
The chairman of the organising committee, Clive Murray, said: “It is a great way to spend an afternoon, getting fit and raising money for charities and good causes at the same time.”
Rotary club president Robert Dunn thanked the sponsors, whose support contributed to the success of the event.
Cheques also went to Discovery Swimming Club, Redwings Animal Sanctuary, Dundee Carers Centre, Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming Club, Saltire Karate, Brae Riding for the Disabled, Arbroath and Carnoustie Cats Protection and Adoption Centre, Terrence Higgins Trust, St George Foundation, Dundee High School Charity Schedule, Cure Parkinson’s, Dundee Disabled Children’s Association, Maggie’s Centre, Rotary Club of Dundee Trust, Dundee City Aquatics, Menzieshill High School Go Africa fund, Bethany Christian Trust, Terry Allison Tribute Fund for Sarcoma UK, Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association, Help for Kids and Tayberry Enterprise.
