Comedians have taken part in a football match to raise funds to help bereaved relatives and survivors of the pub helicopter crash which claimed 10 lives.
More than 100 people were in the Clutha bar in Glasgow city centre when a police helicopter crashed through the roof on November 29.
Yesterday’s game was arranged because so many comics were in Glasgow ahead of a comedy gala to raise money for the Clutha appeal fund set up by Glasgow City Council, which has received donations of more than £200,000 so far.
The match at Toryglen Regional Football Centre raised around £1,000, with the Old Firm United team winning 6-3 against Rest of the World.
Organiser Alan Anderson said: “Unusually there’s going to be quite a lot of comics all in the city on the same day and the idea of having a football match came about.
“This quickly morphed into one where we try to raise money, and since Glasgow has shown great unity following the Clutha crash it seemed only right that a united comedians team of Old Firm fans compete against comics from the rest of Scotland and beyond.”
Fred MacAulay, Des McLean and Janey Godley are among the comedians who were lined up for the Stand up for Clutha Comedy Gala at Glasgow’s O2 Academy on Sunday night.
So far £20,000 has been raised through the gala and the target is £40,000.
