Former Carnoustie woman Pauline Claessens found dead

An inquest is to be held after police found a former Carnoustie woman dead in an English woodland.

The body of Pauline Claessens was discovered within hours of Hampshire Constabulary issuing a missing person appeal.

Officers found the mother-of-two’s body as they carried out a search of a copse not far from her rural Ellisfield home, near Basingstoke. She had been missing for less than 24 hours when she was found.

Foul play was quickly ruled out as a possible cause of death but it has been confirmed that a full inquest will take place on November 3 in a bid to determine the exact circumstances.

A spokeswoman for the North East Hampshire coroner said the case would be heard at Alton Magistrates Court.

Expected to last two days, it will feature evidence from witnesses including the person who made the gruesome find.

The 49-year-old moved to England after marrying her husband Neil and the couple had two children Scott and Adam.

Mrs Claessens was born and raised in Carnoustie, lived in the town’s South Kinloch Street and attended the high school. She later went to university to study speech therapy and worked with the NHS in Tayside for a time before moving to Hampshire.

Her brother Grant lives in Toronto, but the family still have Angus connections as her elderly father Drew stays at a nursing home in Montrose. Her mother Jean passed away in 2004.
