Guide Dogs for the Blind marks its 80th birthday this year with the charity hoping there may be more people willing to give up some time to support the organisation.
The charity is holding a volunteering information meeting at its Orchardbank Business Park training school in Forfar on Thursday, running from 1-3pm.
Guide Dogs regional volunteering adviser Emma Murton said, “The lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is nearly £50,000 and we currently have 4500 guide dog partnerships in the UK, but Guide Dogs receive no government or statutory funding.
“We rely entirely on the generosity of the public to provide a service that makes a massive difference to the lives of blind and partial sighted people.
“Our volunteers take the lead organising fund-raising activities everything from street collections to abseiling.
“If you’re good at motivating others and like a challenge then we want to hear from you to join our local fund-raising team.
“We’re recruiting for puppy walkers in the area to care for and develop our puppies. Although done on a voluntary basis, it will take a lot of time, commitment and love.”
Anyone interested in attending the meeting can contact the training school on 0845 372 7408 to book a place.
