A teenage dad who had a falling-out with the mother of their 11-week-old child because he wanted to buy cannabis rather than nappies has been given a six-month good behaviour order by a sheriff.
Brandon Simmers and his 17-year-old girlfriend were involved in what Forfar Sheriff Court heard had been a “rocky relationship at best” prior to an incident in Arbroath’s Lochlands Street on August 6 in which the 18-year-old accused, of the town’s Grant Road, assaulted his partner by pulling her arm and pushing her.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the pair had a baby and around 1.30pm they were at home when the girlfriend said the child needed nappies.
“The accused made it clear he would rather spend the money on cannabis,” the fiscal said.
“She left the house with the child in the pram and various witnesses saw that he was being aggressive towards her.
“A member of the public saw her being pulled by the arm and intervened.”
