Angus road rage man smashed ex-girlfriend’s car windscreen

A court has been told how an Angus man smashed his ex-girlfriend’s car windscreen with his fists in a terrifying road-rage incident.

Stuart Fulcher launched the attack after tailing and overtaking his former partner through the streets of Brechin as she drove home with her new boyfriend and a young child in the car.

Fulcher, 24, will be sentenced in early March after being warned by a sheriff that he was in “serious trouble” over last September’s incident.

Fiscal depute Hannah Kennedy told Forfar sheriff court Fulcher and his victim had been together for around four years, but separated some 12 months prior to the incident.

The complainer, who is 22, was in a new relationship with a 20-year-old partner when the offence happened.

The fiscal said that on the day of the offence the woman had gone to Fulcher’s home to collect a young child and the accused had made a sarcastic remark about her new boyfriend.

“She was driving her new boyfriend’s car at the time, placed the child in the rear and he got into the passenger seat,” said Ms Kennedy.

As they were driving home around 8.20pm the woman became aware of Fulcher following them.

The fiscal added: ”He repeatedly drove very close to the vehicle and she was very concerned, particularly because if the child in the rear.”

Fulcher, of Haughs of Kinnaird Road, Brechin then overtook the woman and she attempted to manoeuvre away from him, but he once again got behind her vehicle.

“He then pulls in front of her and slams on his brakes, which causes her to come to a stop,” continued the fiscal. “He gets out of his car and walks back to the car, shouting and swearing.

“He is clearly enraged and punches the windscreen of the vehicle, causing it to crack.”

The complainer and her partner immediately went to Brechin police office to report the incident and officers saw they were distressed over what had happened.

Fulcher was subsequently traced but denied it had taken place.

Defence solicitor Brian Bell said the accused acknowledged it had been a “distasteful incident”.

Deferring sentence until March 5, Sheriff Gregor Murray warned Fulcher to stay out of any further trouble.
