There was rush hour chaos between Dundee and Arbroath on Tuesday as a total of 16 vehicles were involved in numerous crashes and shunts.
Overall, the stricken vehicles contributed to a crash site that was about half a mile long over the westbound carriageway of the A92 between Arbroath and Salmondsmuir.
As emergency services worked their way through the mayhem, four people were taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital’s accident and emergency department where their injuries were assessed and treated.

This resulted in a build-up of traffic locally that stretched all the way back into Arbroath and up Westway.
The incident began at about 4.45pm when two cars heading towards Dundee a black Fiat Punto and a black Volkswagen Golf were involved in a collision. He was tended to at the scene as the sun before being taken to hospital.
Then reports filtered through of further incidents involving another 14 vehicles on the dual carriageway.
Police Scotland later indicated that various vehicles had either been involved in bumper to bumper shunts, or else drivers had taken evasive action and steered off the carriageway to avoid cars in front.
