A man who threatened to knock out two police officers while in a drunken stupor has been fined.
Patrick Brooks, 25, of Lintrathen, unloaded a tirade of abuse at the two officers after leaving an Arbroath nightclub in Millgate at around 2.15am on January 4.
He threatened them with violence, branded them corrupt and told them he would “kick off” after knocking over a bin.
Brooks was arrested and caused a further breach of the peace in the police vehicle.
At Arbroath sheriff Court on Tuesday depute fiscal Hazel Anderson described how Brooks approached the police officers unprovoked and threatened to assault them.
She said: “Police warned him about his behaviour but he continued, saying he would ‘knock them out’ and that he was going to ‘kick off’. He was arrested and placed in the cell in the back of the police car. While in the cell he proceeded to kick and head butt it while in the car and he continued to threaten the officers.”
Brooks’ solicitor, Billy Rennie said his client couldn’t “recall a jot” about the incident and hadn’t taken alcohol since he was arrested.
He added: “He tells me he rarely drinks, but this was a heavy drinking session where he ended up getting detached from the other people in the group he was with.”
Sheriff Gregor Murray fined Brooks £400 for the incident.
