Further details have emerged about a new Angus strongman competition.

This year’s Arbroath SeaFest on August 9 and 10 will feature the contest, which is run in conjunction with the Warehouse/Bodyworx Gym in Arbroath.

The tournament will have five events: a log lift, a deadlift, reps using a dumbbell, a yoke race (which involves lifting and carrying a weight as far as possible) and a loading race on to a truck using sandbags weighing up to 130kg.

Lee Page from the gym said: “We have spread the word around the strongman circuit and have had interest from athletes from Ireland and England too.

“With trophies and prizes for competitors with help from sponsorship from other businesses, we are making sure this will be a professional-run event that should hopefully grow each year and attract top strongmen to compete in.

“These type of events are always good crowd pullers and will be fun for the SeaFest crowd to watch.”

Depending on the success of the event, SeaFest may add a strongest woman competition in future years.
