Most of Monifieth’s golf clubs have backed full amalgamation in a survey to find a way to safeguard the future of the game on the Angus links.
Members of the Ladies’ Panmure Club have rejected the far-reaching proposal.
They want to remain as an organisation for only female golfers with their own separate clubhouse.
The survey was designed to gauge the opinions of members of the four Monifieth clubs about how best to protect the game on their local courses for future generations.
The results are now to to be debated by the Monifieth, Grange and Broughty club committees over the summer.
They will also be reported to the members of the Ladies’ Panmure Club who rejected amalgamation in the survey by 70% to 30%.
Their result is unlikely to derail any merger moves by the three other clubs that are all open to male and female members.
The Ladies’ Panmure is a smaller operation than the other clubs and is not exposed to the same financial pressures.
