An Angus ex-soldier gathering goods for a mercy run to Calais is hoping a transport saviour may ride to the rescue ahead of the long trip south next week.
During her nine-year military career in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Marianne Scott from Carnoustie witnessed first-hand the plight of families in countries like Iraq and has been deeply affected by the unfolding migrant crisis.
Through her Facebook page, Marianne, 38, has organised collection points in Carnoustie, Monifieth, Dundee and Arbroath and has seen goods flood in ahead of a planned journey to Calais next Wednesday.
Clothing, food, shelter and additional items including candles and baby goods have been donated and Marianne is determined to set off for France in the early hours of the morning even if she has to hire a vehicle out of her own pocket.
“I didn’t want the collection of goods to be a long process. It’ll probably require a long-wheelbase Transit-sized van and it would be a great help if someone could assist with the transport, but come hell or high water I will be going then, even if I have to pay for hiring a van myself,” she said.
