An Angus man left his mother’s ex-partner covered in blood after an alcohol-fuelled dispute, a court heard.
Ryan McLean from Montrose bit, kicked and punched Mark Trzska in a sustained attack because he thought the man had offended his mother in Ferryden last year.
McLean, 21, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting the 46-year-old by repeatedly punching, kicking and biting him on the head and body at Craig Terrace on June 14.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said all three lived in the Ferryden address at the time of the incident and had been “socialising” with alcohol.
A disagreement occurred between the couple and McLean “intervened”.
Ms Kennedy added: “He assaulted the complainer initially by repeatedly punching him on the head and body.
“The complainer tries to get away from the accused but he pursues him and bites him repeatedly on the head and body.”
When they arrived, police observed three bite marks on Mr Trzska’s back and head.
Ms Kennedy added: “At this stage he is covered in blood and his house is covered in blood as he tries to get away from the accused by going room to room.
“The complainer was taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance and kept in overnight.”
The relationship between Mr Trzska and McLean’s mother ended as a result of the incident.
Defending McLean, solicitor Lynne Sturrock said her client was “ashamed of his actions”.
She said: “He accepts he does need help with anger management and consequential thinking.”
McLean, of Panter Crescent, also admitted smashing windows and possessing 0.2g of cocaine at the same time and place.
Visiting Sheriff Simon Collins imposed an 18-month community payback order with 220 hours of unpaid work as a direct alternative to custody.
He said: “The consequences are obviously serious, considering the circumstances and your offending history.”
