Montrose hairdressers daubed with red paint days after fox fur threats

An Angus hairdressers that received threats over a fox fur in a window display has been vandalised.

Red gloss paint was thrown over the front of 3sixty in Montrose in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident has been reported to Police Scotland, who are investigating.

Last month salon staff in the Murray Street shop were warned they had 24 hours to remove the fur from a mannequin in the window.

The shop changes its window display each month and decided on a Burns theme for January.

The model had a tartan bodice and a skirt made out of wigs as well as the fur, which belonged to a member of staff’s great grandmother.

A man visited the shop two weeks ago and asked owner Dawn Kerr to take the fur out of the window because it was “upsetting everybody in Montrose”.

When the 100-year-old fur was not removed the man returned to the shop on January 20 and told a member of staff they had 24 hours to get rid of it.

At that point Ms Kerr took the decision to remove the fur to protect her shop and staff.

She declined to talk to The Courier after the latest incident for fear of more reprisals.

Montrose councillor David May said he was “appalled” by the paint attack.

He said: “Knowing the owners of the shop you couldn’t find nicer people and they have been working hard to build up the business.

“The owners of the shop were not making any comment at all about supporting fox hunting. It was a really bright window display.

“This is completely the wrong way to react. I’m very disappointed.I really hope the police identify who was involved and appropriate action is taken as soon as possible.”

A police spokeswoman said the investigation into the incident is at an early stage.

She said: “Anyone who has information that could assist officers with their inquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

“Alternatively information can be passed via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
