A teenager will undertake 200 hours of unpaid work for offences including an assault against a supermarket security guard and swinging punches at police who came to execute an arrest warrant on him.
Wayne Martin, 19, of Brothock Way in Arbroath, appeared for sentence before Sheriff Pino Di Emidio at Forfar in relation to the July offence at Tesco in Montrose and the other incident on August 19 when police had to call for back-up from colleagues.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said CCTV captured Martin stealing a £12 phone charger but when he was challenged by a staff member began to violently lash out, hitting him on the head with his elbow.
She added: “On August 19 officers attended at the accused’s home address in respect of an outstanding apprehension warrant. He answered the door and attempted to close it before becoming aggressive.”
Martin adopted a “fighting stance” against police and was eventually subdued by a number of officers.
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie said it was a “particularly unsavoury outcome.”
