Firefighters come to the rescue of a cat on a hot Brechin roof

The cat was left stranded at some height.
The cat was left stranded at some height.

A black kitten had a stroke of bad luck after getting stuck on top of an Angus block of flats and sparking an emergency response.

Mischievous Alfie, who is only eight months old, managed to scale the wall of the Brechin property all the way to the roof.

But, unable to climb all the way back down, the unfortunate moggy was stranded on the third-floor windowsill for around three hours.

Eventually he had to be rescued by firefighters, who arrived just after 12.30pm and brought him down with the help of a ladder.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call about a cat on a windowsill at 12.33pm.

“The eight-month-old cat was rescued using a nine metre ladder.”

Despite becoming dehydrated in the sun, Alfie is now recovering and having a well-deserved catnap.

But he won’t be going on more rooftop adventures any time soon as he is to be kept indoors from now on.

Owner Leanne Doyle said: “This morning has been eventful. After being stuck on the third floor and the roof some nice firemen finally took me on and rescued my little Alfie after he decided to climb the wall and then on to the roof.

“Needless to say he won’t be going out again. He is definitely an indoor cat.

“He was in the sun for almost three hours, no access to water so he was panting.

“He is cooling down and sleeping, poor boy. My heart was in overdrive and I didn’t want to think of the worst.

“No one was taking me seriously, they thought he got up so he can get down, but there was no way for him to come down.

“The neighbour couldn’t open her window to let him in because of the way it opens it would have pushed him off.

“I’m just glad he is down safe and sleeping.”
