Parents have reacted with anger after being locked out of Carnoustie High School in heavy rain.
It is understood there were to be study support groups at the school for Higher and Nat 5 pupils at 10am on Monday.
Parents arrived to find the gates and school locked.
Several teachers and quite a few pupils were waiting outside in the pouring rain.
One parent said he phoned the council to be told it was a public holiday for them and the school janitors.
He said: “There were soaked children at the locked school gates and two perplexed teachers who were also in the dark.
“These study support sessions are vitally important for pupils as they approach their Highers.
“I’m angry that everyone was inconvenienced when teachers and pupils were prepared to go along during their holidays, but I’m more angry that my son has missed two hours of help with his physics.”
He added: “Someone has fouled up with arrangements.
“I can’t believe it wasn’t known Monday was a council holiday when the sessions were arranged.”
Just last week Angus Council responded to complaints that study leave for secondary pupils heading into their crucial exam period had been cancelled.
Claims that study leave has been stopped in Angus had been the subject of letters and phone calls to The Courier.
The issue had also been raised at parents’ nights at schools.
A spokesman for Angus Council responded and denied that study leave had been cancelled and said arrangements for S5 and S6 pupils are for a period of study leave from Monday May 9 to Friday May 20.
He said that young people in S5 with exams outside this period will be given the day before and the day of the examination as study leave.
The council was asked to respond to the morning lock-out at Carnoustie High School but had not responded at the time of going to press.
