Police sealed off a city centre street following an assault.
Half a dozen officers, supported by scenes of crime units, blocked off Pullars Close for several hours following the incident.
A male suffered a number of cuts to his head, including a one inch laceration above his eyebrow, and was taken to Ninewells Hospital.
Specialist officers could be seen combing the crime scene, which was just off the Murraygate, for several hours.
One eyewitness said: “I could see a policeman standing blocking off the close, which was taped off.
“There were people coming and going though, carrying some things into vans that were parked up on the Murraygate.
“They were there for several hours at least. I work nearby so I was quite surprised to see it all going on,” he added.
A spokesman for Police Scotland, Tayside Division, said: “We received a call at around 4.25pm that a male had been assaulted in Pullars Close.
“Inquiries are continuing but a male has been detained in connection with the incident.”
In a separate incident just minutes later, police had to assist a male in his early twenties who is thought to have suffered a drugs overdose. An ambulance also attended the scene, but the man required no medical attention. Officers took the man home.
