Busy morning on roads as Claypotts junction roadworks begin

Drivers have been warned to leave extra time and expect delays.
Drivers have been warned to leave extra time and expect delays.

Commuters face five weeks of traffic delays when roadworks begin at Claypotts junction in Dundee on Monday.

Rush-hour drivers face a “nightmare” journey into and out of Dundee city centre due to the works on the A92 Arbroath Road/Claypotts Road junction.

The work is being staged to refurbish traffic signals at Arbroath Road and Baldovie Road and will lead to several road closures over the next five weeks.

The right and left turn from Baldovie Road on to A92 Arbroath Road will be closed.

HGVs are advised to take the diversion route between Baldovie Road, Drumgeith Road and Douglas Road.

All other drivers can follow Tom Johnston Road and on to A92 Arbroath Road.See below for live updatesThe right turn from A92 Arbroath Road into Baldovie Road will also be closed and all traffic will be diverted via East Balgillo Road, Balgillo Road and A92 Arbroath Road eastbound.

The work is starting just as Dundee schools resume after the two-week October break.

One regular commuter said: “It has the potential to be an absolute nightmare at rush hour.

“The Claypotts junction is bad enough at the best of times.”

Drivers are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys.

The city council says the work is the first of a two-phase programme of traffic light replacement, with the second phase following in the new year.
