Football fan gets ban after throwing stool in Dundee pub

A football hooligan who threw a bar stool in a city centre pub has been banned from the sport for a year.
John Meikle, 31, threw the stool, which hit at least one person in the bar, after a Dundee United versus Hearts game in April last year.
Dundee Sheriff Court previously heard Meikle, from Edinburgh, was with a group of visiting fans heading home from the game, en route to the train station, when they stopped off in Lloyds Bar on Seagate.
Barmaids at the pub said the group had discussed football at the bar before Meikle suddenly picked up the stool and threw it.
Sheriff McGowan, who had previously found Meikle guilty, said: “I am underwhelmed with excuses that it was caused by drinking, but taking into account your history of offending and your progress, I am going to deal with this by way of a financial penalty and football banning order.”
Meikle was ordered to pay £750 and was issued with a football banning order for a period of one year.
