Dundonians happiest in the UK with their home dcor

Dundonians are the happiest in the UK with the way their homes are decorated, according to a new survey.

The report by property website Rightmove also reveals that the city is the third-happiest place in Scotland to live and in the top 40 nationwide.

Dundee interior designer Sooz Gordon said: “It’s maybe because there are a lot of creative people in Dundee.”

She continued: “Things like Pinterest and design websites are quite easily accessible.

“Clients of mine use Pinterest and it means they can go on and look at images of places they like and save them to a board.

“Quite often they’ll say they have a board of their dream house, so I think people are a lot more aware of how to source things.

“People are also a bit more eclectic now and they’re not necessarily buying from one shop.

“Before, people would maybe get all their furniture from one place.

“Now, people are more confident about picking up an individual piece and incorporating it into their design.”

Perth was the fourth in the top-10 happiest places to live in Scotland, with Kirkcaldy in sixth place according to the report.

Inverness was named by the survey as the happiest place to live within Scotland, while Llandrindod Wells came first in Wales.

Rightmove’s survey of more than 24,000 people asked questions such as how proud they are of their home, whether they are satisfied with how it is decorated, how safe they feel in their community, whether they have enough living space, how friendly the neighbours are and whether they worry about the value of their property.

Harrogate was ranked first overall after coming out top for people feeling pride in where they live, as well as residents being happy with their area’s upkeep and safety in their community.
