Police officers have been called to Dundee schools 37 times over the past three years.
They responded to a range of incidents, from primary pupils bringing weapons to school to parents allegedly fighting in the playground and fireraising.
The alarm was also raised when a suspicious stranger was spotted at a city nursery and when a horse and pony, understood to have fled from a farm, stampeded on school property.
There were 10 complaints made to police or Dundee City Council about pupil aggression towards school staff.
Councillor John Alexander, who is the Children and Young People’s Champion, said that while these were “isolated incidents” he considered that “even one is too many”.
“Any incident of violence, vandalism or aggression within schools is unacceptable, whether it’s carried out by pupils or outsiders in the school grounds,” he said.
“Incidents such as bringing a weapon to school are shocking and scary for pupils, parents and staff.
“Young children are very impressionable, so we have to make sure we are educating them about how to conduct themselves. Parents also need to be aware of what their children are doing.”
Police Scotland were called to Rosebank Primary after reports of a pupil with a weapon, as well as spray painting of school property, while officers responded to vandalism, theft and fireraising at Sidlaw View Primary School.
Three incidents were recorded of threats being made to staff at Menzieshill High, while parents were involved in incidents at Dens Road and Fintry primary schools and at Camperdown Primary.
