Dundee college student dies after car crash

A 22-year-old Dundee student and aspiring Disneyland Paris performer has died in a car accident.

Karen Gibson died on Wednesday after her car crashed in Hamilton on Monday night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene just after 8.20pm and rescued the former barmaid from her vehicle.

But despite the efforts of hospital staff, Dundee and Angus College student Karen could not be saved.

Police confirmed the tragedy and added that they were still investigating the incident.

Friends have been paying tribute on social media to the dance student, who used to work in Boudoir Bar and Beau Nightclub.

The 22-year-old’s Facebook account describes her as a ‘character and parade performer at Disneyland Paris’ with her residency also described as the French capital.

Her family, who live in Larkhall, were too upset to speak when contacted by The Courier.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We were alerted to an accident at 8.20pm on Monday July 20.

“It was a one-car road crash on the Carlisle Road, near Hamilton.

“Emergency services attended and a 22-year-old woman was taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

“She was later transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she died on Wednesday July 22,” said the spokesman.

“Inquiries are continuing and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
