‘I totally freaked out’ Dundee holidaymaker shocked by £21,000 phone bill
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee woman has returned home from a family holiday with a staggering £21,819 mobile phone bill.
Shocked Shannon Mills, 19, an NHS worker from Whitfield, discovered the huge costs she had incurred while relaxing by the pool in Turkey.
She said: “I totally freaked out. It was a massive shock.”
Shannon had contacted O2 prior to the trip to see what deals they had for using her phone’s internet abroad and opted to pay £120 for every 30 megabytes of data used.
She said: “I wanted to use Facetime, Facebook and things like that. I normally only pay £25 per month, but I thought I’d come home with something like a £300 bill from the holiday.”
When the total reached £4,000 she called O2 again and thought she had succeeded in ending the charges.
She says she will think twice about using her phone on holidays.
O2 has said it will look into the matter.
