Police scoured a former Dundee College building after concerns were raised of possible thieves in the building.

Officers were alerted on Tuesday afternoon and eight police cars including the dog unit attended the empty building on Constitution Road.

A spokesman for Tayside Division said: “There is concern of people within the building involved in theft.

“There’s a safety issue as well.We are carrying out a search and we have got the dog unit assisting as well as reviewing CCTV.”

Police called off the search at around 5.30pm after no one was found within the building and it was left in the hands of the college.

This is not the first time the former college building has been targeted.

Kevin Flood was jailed in November after he stripped out copper piping, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

A spokesman for D&A College said: “The college has taken all reasonable measures to secure this building.

“We have spent tens of thousands of pounds installing metal shuttering on the windows on the first two floors and have also taken steps to minimise movement within the building.

“We also check the building externally on a daily basis.

“It would appear that intruders, now faced with the shutters on the windows, are actually bringing ladders with them to access the building, often risking pretty severe drops or falls.”
