More misery for Dundee bus passengers as driver overtime ban continues
ByAndrew Argo
Dundee bus passengers are facing more misery after National Express Dundee confirmed the drivers’ overtime ban is continuing.
A spokesman said: “Our services will experience further disruption and we are very sorry to customers for the inconvenience.
“We will, as we did last week, work hard to limit this disruption, with senior managers driving buses, service updates on our webpage and social media and office staff in the city centre to help customers whose journeys are affected.
“We will also work to ensure our most popular services and those to Ninewells Hospital are the least affected.”
Employees leaving their jobs and illness absence at National Express Dundee have created a staffing shortage, with not enough drivers available to drive buses on regular shifts.
So much overtime was offered by management that drivers have been turning down the extra shifts as they felt the extra hours were excessive.
Last Monday about 100 buses failed to run and on Friday about 50 vehicles were affected. It is understood a union branch meeting was held at the weekend.
