The West End parking “nightmare” is back on the agenda amid claims the area is being overrun by city centre and university commuters.
Councillor Fraser Macpherson has continued to campaign for a rethink on the problem, which he says is caused by people working in the city centre leaving their cars all day in residential streets to avoid parking charges.
West End residents rejected a proposed permit scheme in 2012, but the issue is now coming back to the table.
Mr Macpherson has accused the council of taking a “wholly inadequate and complacent attitude” by dismissing his latest bid to raise the issue.
He said: “Since the failed consultation now some years ago, it is obvious from the level of complaints from residents that the parking situation is getting worse not better and that local people find it increasingly difficult to get parked near their homes.
“I therefore feel strongly that the council simply cannot walk away from the problem, but must consider some further consultation on revised proposals for example on a mix of different solutions each covering smaller areas, rather than the ‘wide area’ proposal suggested back in 2012.”
He said the council failed to come up with any alternatives when it looked into the matter previously and it was unacceptable to charge West End residents 16 times more than the cost of a similar scheme in Menzieshill.
Meanwhile, at its most recent meeting West End Community Council said the parking situation has worsened and that it is trying to see what it can do about it.
Councillors are entitled to place items on the agenda, and now it has been accepted the matter will be considered at Dundee City Council’s city development meeting on March 28.
Mr Macpherson said he intends to bring a motion for a potential solution to the table at the meeting.
Committee convener Will Dawson, however, previously argued that revisiting the scheme would be a pointless exercise as West End residents have already shown they are not in favour of the proposals.
