Dundee United’s struggles on the football pitch were put into perspective by a visit to Ninewells Hospital. The first team squad handed out over £1,000 worth of Christmas presents to young patients and visited some of the medical and oncology wards. They also gave their support to the Archie campaign to build a new Tayside children’s hospital. Midfielder John Rankin said: “We’re happy to get involved. “It’s not great when you go into the wards and see some of the kids suffering.”
